“In the villages of Pakistan, a sewing machine is not just a tool — it is a lifeline. For a widow, a single mother, a woman with no government safety net, it is the difference between poverty and dignity.”
Women Left Behind
in Pakistan
Pakistan has no comprehensive government social safety net for rural women. When a husband dies, when children are lost, when illness strikes — there is no programme, no support, no safety.
Widows and women who have lost children are often left with nothing: no income, no skills, and no way to care for themselves or their surviving family. In many villages, these women depend entirely on charity or the goodwill of others.
The result is a generation of women trapped in poverty, robbed of dignity, unable to build a future for themselves or their children. The Sewing School programme exists to change that.
How the Sewing School Works
Women Are Enrolled
Local churches and community leaders identify widows and vulnerable women in need of the programme
Training Begins
A 3–6 month intensive sewing and tailoring skills programme equips women with real, practical trade knowledge
They Graduate
Women receive a certificate of completion and a sewing machine of their own upon graduating from the programme
They Build a Future
Graduates earn income, support their families, and become respected leaders within their communities
What This Programme Gives Them
A Skill
The ability to sew, tailor, and create — skills that earn income for a lifetime and cannot be taken away
Respect & Dignity
No longer dependent on charity — able to stand with pride, self-sufficiency, and the respect of her community
A Way to Earn
Real income that feeds children, pays rent, and builds a stable future — one stitch, one garment at a time
Community
Connected to a network of women and local church support — no longer facing hardship alone
Hope
For women who have lost everything — a reason to look forward, to wake up, to work, and to dream again
Life
For women whose children have died and whose future felt empty — a new purpose, and a new beginning
From the Field
